Microbial Stress, Growth, and Rapid Testing – Implications for Food Samples and Systems webinar

Sidebar Image

When we send a sample of food for testing, we generally think about a pretty simple system where we submit a sample, wait a bit of time, and then find out if the target organism is there. What we often forget is just how complex our food, processing systems, and environments truly are.

As a result, we sometimes over-simplify what might be happening at a microbial level, and how that might impact our final results. This can be particularly true for Produce samples where the “processing environments” are often outdoor fields subject to variable weather, UV exposure, pest and animal pressures.

Watch this webinar hosted by Joelle Mosso, Associate Chief Scientific Officer for the Eurofins Produce segment, who has recently been appointed as a new member of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods (NACMCF). Members of this committee are chosen based on their expertise in microbiology, risk assessment, epidemiology, public health, food science, and other relevant disciplines. The activities of NACMCF are carried out, in part, by subcommittees that are focused on specific areas being considered by the full committee.

This webinar connects the dots on bacterial stress & its potential implication to testing through some real-life examples using whole genome sequencing (WGS) and PCR detection methods.
