Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVP) What You Need To Know
The Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) is an essential part of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) signed into law in 2011. FSVP places the responsibility of food safety onto the importers themselves and requires those covered under the law to develop a program based on risk to verify food imported into the United States meets applicable U.S. safety standards.

One common question received is: “Who do these requirements apply to?” Below is a simple outline of the importers subject to the rule and those with exceptions. The law has compliance dates ranging from May 2017 to 2020 depending on size.
