In 2017 NY enacted legislation directing the state health department to create a list of emerging contaminants that every water utility would be required to test for including notification levels. The department has yet to create this list, so the legislature has passed a new bill to speed up this process.
New York Senate Bill S1759A is headed to the Governor’s desk for signing. This bill, if signed, will designate a list of 27 additional PFAS compounds to be monitored for in drinking water. If signed, the agency will have 90 days to draft regulation and another 90 days to implement regulation. To see the full list of emerging contaminants click here.
