This past spring, Terry Schuck was on top of the world. Literally. He summited Mount Everest and earned the distinction of being the first person from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to achieve such great heights. An avid climber and runner, Terry approaches his career at Lancaster Labs and dedication to providing clients quality service with equal determination and commitment to that of running one of his many marathons. Twenty-three years ago, Terry was looking for a rewarding career that offered variety and found that opportunity with Lancaster Labs. He joined Lancaster Labs in Environmental Water Quality as a lab technician and eventually made his way to the Pharmaceutical Raw Materials Department, where for the past 10 years has been a group leader.
Prior to joining the company he worked for the Pennsylvania Fish Commission, testing their fish hatchery waters. Terry earned a degree from Pennsylvania State University in Environmental Resource Management.
What does your current job entail?
Currently I’m a group leader in the Pharmaceuticals Raw Materials Department primarily responsible for the GC testing. My responsibilities include managing and coordinating a group of six analysts that investigate method problems and help clients understand results and methods.
What is the scope of your group?
The basic scope of my group is to perform GC testing for raw materials, release samples, stability samples and developmental materials. We also perform wet chemistry testing and carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen analyses.
You’ve been here for 23 years and seen countless changes. Is there anything that hasn’t changed during your tenure?
I feel the one thing that hasn’t changed since beginning a career at Lancaster Laboratories is our commitment to delivering quality data.
And when you’re not working?
I’m climbing mountains. I’ve been on numerous high altitude mountaineering trips in the Cascades of the American northwest, South America and Asia. In the spring of 2007, I climbed Mt. Everest. Climbing is an adventurous way to see the world.
